Some activities include weaving classes to learn the traditional Mayan methods of weaving, or if you prefer something more active, there are multiple hiking trails with stunning views of the lake and the volcanos (you can even hike the volcanos too!) On the lake, many people enjoy going kayaking or paddle boarding. You can get involved with the local community and learn <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tz\u2019utujil, one of the Mayan languages spoken in the area. It is a vibrant place full of fresh vegetables and fruit. Most of what\u2019s available is locally grown, so you can enjoy seasonal produce, try new flavors, and support the local economy. Do not forget to try jocotes, zapote and pitaya when they are in season.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visit Santiago Central Park. Besides being a nice spot with a 3D map of the lake in the middle of the park, it\u2019s surrounded by street food which is very popular amongst locals, and worth trying. You can try tostadas, dobladas, chuchitos, tamales, rellenitos, atol &amp; pat\u00edn (traditional food from Santiago Atitl\u00e1n made with tomato sauce and spices).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Visit the Catholic Church built in the XVI century and Parque de la Paz in Santiago to learn about recent history. <a href=\"http:\/\/anadesa.org\/services\">ANADESA<\/a> a community NGO based in Santiago offers walking tours on Santiago&#8217;s recent history. Have a look at their website for more cultural activities.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Walk down &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/6kasTHNrb3kMJ5n97\">Ruta de los murales<\/a>&#8221; an alley filled with street art made by various local, national and international artists reflecting on origin and identity of Santiago Atitl\u00e1n.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/UE6maFCp5ursmgYP9\">Casa Museo Concepci\u00f3n Ram\u00edrez<\/a> in Santiago, dedicated to the Tz&#8217;utujil woman appearing on the Guatemalan 25-cent coin<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Try a chocofruta (frozen fruit dipped in chocolate). They are sold across the Lake, just ask the locals<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Have a coffee at <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/vQcux223ZzpwDVsL6\">Space Coffee<\/a> and let Diego, the best barista in all of Santiago, talk you through the different coffee varieties.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eat at <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/nXnBzzoyvbL2nLpg9\">Le Antigua,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/siycdWqN9KSw6ZYv8\">Maria Chula<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/U2JmeRwv8hcdC5HH6\">Germinaciones<\/a>, all of them are cosy places to try creative cuisine and hang out with friends.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Have ceviche in one of the many cevicherias in Santiago<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enjoy a picnic of barbeque and tacos at the local parks (Xechivoy and Pachichaj).
